On March 31, 1980 Leroy Jones fought Larry Holmes for the WBC heavyweight title. Jones was 30 years old with a record of 24-0-1, and Holmes was 30 with a record of 33-0. Jones was on an undefeated 7-fight winning streak and Holmes was on an undefeated 33-fight winning streak. Holmes stopped Jones via TKO in the 8th round. Failed to capture the title.
