On December 31, 2020 Kosei Tanaka fought Kazuto Ioka for the WBO super flyweight title. Tanaka was 25 years old with a record of 15-0, and Ioka was 31 with a record of 25-2. Tanaka was on an undefeated 15-fight winning streak and Ioka was on a 2-fight winning streak. Ioka stopped Tanaka via TKO in the 8th round. Failed to capture the title.
