    On October 3, 2015 Khabib Allakhverdiev fought Adrien Broner for the vacant WBA super lightweight title. Allakhverdiev was 32 years old with a record of 19-1, and Broner was 26 with a record of 30-2. Both Allakhverdiev and Broner were coming off a loss. Broner stopped Allakhverdiev via TKO in the 12th round. Failed to win the vacant title. Lasted into the 12th round.

    On April 12, 2014 Khabib Allakhverdiev defended his IBO and WBA (Regular) super lightweight titles against Jessie Vargas. Allakhverdiev was 31 years old with a record of 19-0, and Vargas was 24 with a record of 23-0. Allakhverdiev was on an undefeated 19-fight winning streak and Vargas was on an undefeated 23-fight winning streak. Allakhverdiev lost via unanimous decision. Lost the titles. Went the distance with Vargas.
