Salvador Sánchez was born in Santiago Tianguistenco, State of Mexico, Mexico on January 26, 1959. He made his professional debut at the age of 16 years on May 4, 1975 against Al Gardeno. Sánchez defeated Gardeno via 3rd round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Sánchez became a world champion fight at the age of 21 after 35 professional fights. He challenged Danny Lopez for the WBC and The Ring featherweight titles and stopped the champion in the 13th of the 15-round fight, winning his first world titles.
Sánchez' last fight was a 15th-round TKO victory over Azumah Nelson at age 23, on July 21, 1982, in which he successfully defended his WBC and The Ring featherweight championship.
