Díaz was 31 years old and with a record of 33-1-1 (17), and Morales was 30 years old and with a record of 48-5 (34). Díaz won the fight via 12-round unanimous decision and successfully defended his title.
On September 26, 2009 David Díaz faced off against Jesús Chávez at age 33. He was coming in with a record of 35-2-1 (17), and Chávez was 36 years old and with a record of 44-5 (30). Díaz won the fight via 10-round majority decision.
