Orlando Salido was born in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, Mexico on November 16, 1978. He made his professional debut at the age of 17 years on March 1, 1996 against Iván Cazarez. Salido lost to Cazarez via 4th round TKO. Not a good start!
Salido got his first world-title fight at the age of 25 after 33 professional fights. On September 18, 2004 Salido challenged Juan Manuel Márquez' WBA (Super) and IBF featherweight titles but lost via 12-round unanimous decision.
He became a world champion on May 15, 2010 at the age of 31 years, after by defeating Cristóbal Cruz, the then-reining IBF featherweight champion, via 12-round unanimous decision. This was his 48th fight as a professional.
