Boxing Career
Wilfredo Gómez was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on October 29, 1956. He made his professional debut at the age of 18 years on November 16, 1974 against Jacinto Fuentes. The fight ended in a draw.
Gómez became a world champion at the age of 20 after 16 professional fights. He challenged Dong-Kyun Yum for the WBC super-bantamweight title and stopped the champion in the 12th of the 15-round fight, winning his first world title.
He then went on to successfully conquer the featherweight (WBC) and super-featherweight (WBA, The Ring) divisions as well to become a three-division world champion.
Gómez' last fight was a 2nd-round KO victory over Mario Salazar at age 32, on July 19, 1989.
