Beibut Shumenov (18-2, 12) was born in Shymkent, Kazakh SSR, Soviet Union on August 19, 1983. At the age of 24 years on November 17, 2007, he made his professional boxing debut against Walter Edwards, winning the fight via 1st-round TKO.
On his 9th career fight at 25 years old, Beibut Shumenov got a shot at the WBA light-heavyweight titles against Gabriel Campillo on August 15, 2009 but lost the fight via 12-round majority decision.
He became a light-heavyweight world champion (WBA) on January 29, 2010 at the age of 26 years old, on his 10th career fight, after defeating Gabriel Campillo via 12-round split decision.
He then went on to become world champion at the cruiserweight weight class as well, winning the WBA (Regular) title against Junior Anthony Wright via 10th-round TKO on May 21, 2016.
Shumenov's last fight was a cruiserweight world-title fight against Hizni Altunkaya for the vacant WBA (Regular) title on July 7, 2018. He stopped Altunkaya via retirement in the 9th round, successfully winning the title. He retired with a 4-fight winning streak.
