Marvin Johnson was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA on April 12, 1954. He made his professional debut at the age of 19 years on May 22, 1973 against Sylvester Wilder. Johnson defeated Wilder via 2nd round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Johnson became a world champion at the age of 24 after 23 professional fights. He challenged Mate Parlov for the WBC light-heavyweight title and stopped the champion in the 10th of the 15-round fight, winning his first world title.
He then went on to successfully win the WBA light-heavyweight world title as well.
Johnson's last fight was an 8th-round RTD loss to Leslie Stewart at age 33, on May 23, 1987, in which he lost his WBA light-heavyweight title.
