Vicente Saldívar (Zurdo de Oro) was a Mexican professional boxer. He was born in Mexico City, Mexico on March 5, 1943. He was a featherweight world champion. He died on July 18, 1985 at the age of 42 years. Saldívar was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 1999. His professional boxing career spanned more than 12 years — from 1961 to 1973.
Saldívar made his professional boxing debut against Baby Palacios at the age of 17 on February 18, 1961, defeating Palacios via 1st round KO. He went on to win 15 more consecutive fights after the debut, which included 12 wins via stoppage.
He had his first world title fight at the age of 21 on September 26, 1964 after 26 professional fights, against Sugar Ramos for the featherweight WBA, WBC, and The Ring titles. He defeated Ramos via 12th round RTD to become the featherweight champion of the world.
