Kovalev was 33 years old and with a record of 30-0-1 (26), and Chilemba was 29 years old and with a record of 24-3-2 (10). Kovalev won the fight via 12-round unanimous decision and successfully defended his titles.
On February 2, 2019 Sergey Kovalev fought Eleider Álvarez in a light-heavyweight world-title fight for Álvarez' WBO title. Kovalev was 35 years old and with a record of 33-3-1 (28), and Álvarez was 34 years old and with a record of 24-0 (12).
