      Nikolai Valuev (Beast from the East) is a 50-year old retired Russian professional boxer. He was born in Leningrad, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union on August 21, 1973. He is a former heavyweight world champion. His professional boxing career spanned more than 16 years — from 1993 to 2009.

      Valuev made his professional boxing debut against John Morton at the age of 20 on October 15, 1993, defeating Morton via 2nd round TKO. He went on to win 18 more consecutive fights after the debut, which included 15 wins via stoppage.

      He had his first world title fight at the age of 32 on December 17, 2005 after 43 professional fights, against John Ruiz for the heavyweight WBA title. He defeated Ruiz via 12 round majority decision to become the heavyweight champion of the world.
