Ken Buchanan (Fighting Carpenter) was a Scottish professional boxer. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on June 28, 1945. He was a lightweight world champion. He died on April 1, 2023 at the age of 77 years. Buchanan was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 2000. His professional boxing career spanned more than 16 years — from 1965 to 1982.
Buchanan made his professional boxing debut against Brian Rocky Tonks at the age of 20 on September 20, 1965, defeating Tonks via 2nd round TKO. He went on to win 32 more consecutive fights after the debut, which included 12 wins via stoppage.
He had his first world title fight at the age of 25 on September 26, 1970 after 37 professional fights, against Ismael Laguna for the lightweight WBA and The Ring titles. He defeated Laguna via 15 round split decision to become the lightweight champion of the world.
