Ingemar Johansson (Ingo) was a Swedish professional boxer. He was born in Gothenburg, Sweden on September 22, 1932. He was a heavyweight world champion. He died on January 30, 2009 at the age of 76 years. Johansson was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 2002. His professional boxing career spanned more than 10 years — from 1952 to 1963.
Johansson made his professional boxing debut against Robert Masson at the age of 20 on December 5, 1952, defeating Masson via 4th round KO. He went on to win 21 more consecutive fights after the debut, which included 13 wins via stoppage.
He had his first world title fight at the age of 26 on June 26, 1959 after 21 professional fights, against Floyd Patterson for the heavyweight NBA, NYSAC, and The Ring titles. He defeated Patterson via 3rd round TKO to become the heavyweight champion of the world.
