On July 6, 1996 Vincenzo Nardiello fought Thulani Malinga in a super-middleweight world-title fight for Malinga's WBC title. Nardiello was 30 years old and with a record of 30-5 (17), and Malinga was 40 years old and with a record of 41-9 (17). Nardiello won the fight via 12-round split decision and is crowned the new super-middleweight world champion.
