On December 30, 1927 Tony Canzoneri faced off against Bud Taylor at age 19. He was coming in with a record of 46-3-6 (14), and Taylor was 24 years old and with a record of 94-17-13 (29). Canzoneri won the fight via 10-round unanimous decision.
On November 14, 1930 Tony Canzoneri fought Al Singer in a lightweight world-title fight for Singer's The Ring title. Canzoneri was 22 years old and with a record of 77-8-8 (24). Canzoneri stopped Al Singer via 1st-round KO and is crowned the new lightweight world champion.
