On June 23, 1986 Steve Cruz fought Barry McGuigan in a featherweight world-title fight for McGuigan's WBA and The Ring titles. Cruz was 22 years old and with a record of 26-1 (13), and McGuigan was 25 years old and with a record of 29-1 (25). Cruz won the fight via 15-round unanimous decision and is crowned the new featherweight world champion.
