On October 9, 2010 Rigoberto Álvarez fought Nobuhiro Ishida in a super-welterweight world-title fight for Ishida's WBA title. Álvarez was 32 years old and with a record of 27-2 (20), and Ishida was 35 years old and with a record of 22-5-2 (7). Álvarez won the fight via 12-round split decision and is crowned the new super-welterweight world champion.
