On February 27, 2021 Pedro Taduran met Rene Mark Cuarto in a strawweight (IBF) world-title defense fight. Taduran was 24 years old and with a record of 14-3-1 (11), and Cuarto was 24 years old and with a record of 18-2-2 (11). Taduran lost the fight via 12-round unanimous decision and lost the title.
