On December 11, 1971 Nicolino Locche met Antonio Cervantes in a super-lightweight (WBA and The Ring) world-title defense fight. Locche was 32 years old and with a record of 104-2-14 (14), and Cervantes was 25 years old and with a record of 31-8-1 (12). Locche won the fight via 15-round unanimous decision and successfully defended his titles.
