On July 27, 2016 Marlon Tapales fought Pungluang Sor Singyu in a bantamweight world-title fight for Singyu's WBO title. Tapales was 24 years old and with a record of 29-2 (11), and Singyu was 27 years old and with a record of 52-3 (35). Tapales stopped Pungluang Sor Singyu via 11th-round KO and is crowned the new bantamweight world champion.
On April 9, 2010 Marlon Tapales faced off against Warlito Parrenas in a light-flyweight bout at age 18. He was coming in with a record of 12-1 (4), and Parrenas was 26 years old and with a record of 11-3 (9). Tapales stopped Warlito Parrenas via TKO.
On April 8, 2023 Marlon Tapales fought Murodjon Akhmadaliev in a super-bantamweight world-title fight for Akhmadaliev's WBA (Super) and IBF titles.
