Barrios won the fight via 12-round unanimous decision and is crowned the new welterweight world champion.
On May 4, 2024 Mario Barrios, the WBC champion, met Fabián Maidana, the WBC champion, in a welterweight world-title unification fight. Barrios was 28 years old and with a record of 29-2 (18), and Maidana was 31 years old and with a record of 22-2 (16). Barrios won the fight via 12-round unanimous decision and and is crowned the unified WBC and WBC champion.
