Cruz was 32 years old and with a record of 37-2-1 (19), and Davis was 25 years old and with a record of 23-0 (22). Cruz lost the fight via 6th-round KO and lost his title.
On July 30, 2016 Léo Santa Cruz met Carl Frampton in a featherweight (WBA (Super)) world-title defense fight. Cruz was 27 years old and with a record of 32-1-1 (18), and Frampton was 29 years old and with a record of 22-0 (14). Cruz lost the fight via 12-round majority decision and lost the title.
