On October 16, 2015 Kohei Kono met Kōki Kameda in a super-flyweight (WBA) world-title defense fight. Kono was 34 years old and with a record of 31-8-1 (13), and Kameda was 28 years old and with a record of 33-1 (18). Kono won the fight via 12-round unanimous decision and successfully defended his title.
On September 10, 2012 Kohei Kono faced off against Petchbarngborn Kokietgym in a super-flyweight bout at age 31. He was coming in with a record of 27-7 (10), and Kokietgym was 27 years old and with a record of 14-5 (4). Kono won the fight via 8-round unanimous decision.
