Buchanan was 26 years old and with a record of 41-1 (14), and Laguna was 28 years old and with a record of 65-8-1 (37). Buchanan won the fight via 15-round unanimous decision and successfully defended his titles.
On September 26, 1970 Ken Buchanan fought Ismael Laguna in a lightweight world-title fight for Laguna's WBA and The Ring titles. Buchanan was 25 years old and with a record of 37-1 (13), and Laguna was 27 years old and with a record of 63-6-1 (37). Buchanan won the fight via 15-round split decision and is crowned the new lightweight world champion.
