Ioka was 35 years old and with a record of 31-3-1 (16), and Martinez was 32 years old and with a record of 16-0 (9). Ioka lost the fight via 12-round unanimous decision and lost his title.
On December 31, 2018 Kazuto Ioka fought Donnie Nietes in a super-flyweight world-title fight for the WBO title. Ioka was 29 years old and with a record of 23-2 (13), and Nietes was 36 years old and with a record of 41-1-5 (23). Ioka lost the fight via 12-round split decision.
