Jones won the fight via 12-round unanimous decision and is crowned the new bantamweight world champion.
On April 18, 1997 Junior Jones met Marco Antonio Barrera in a super-bantamweight (WBO) world-title defense fight. Jones was 26 years old and with a record of 44-2 (27), and Barrera was 23 years old and with a record of 43-1 (31). Jones won the fight via 12-round unanimous decision and successfully defended his title.
