On August 23, 1997 Julio César Green fought William Joppy in a middleweight world-title fight for Joppy's WBA title. Green was 30 years old and with a record of 22-2 (15), and Joppy was 26 years old and with a record of 24-0-1 (19). Green won the fight via 12-round unanimous decision and is crowned the new middleweight world champion.
