Laporte won the fight via 12-round unanimous decision and successfully defended his title.
On June 25, 1983 Juan Laporte met Johnny De La Rosa in a featherweight (WBC) world-title defense fight. Laporte was 23 years old and with a record of 24-3 (13), and De La Rosa was 20 years old and with a record of 21-0 (16). Laporte won the fight via 12-round split decision and successfully defended his title.
