Salgado was 26 years old and with a record of 24-1-1 (16), and Mendez was 25 years old and with a record of 18-1 (9). Salgado won the fight via 12-round unanimous decision and is crowned the new super-featherweight world champion.
On August 18, 2012 Juan Carlos Salgado met Jonathan Victor Barros in a super-featherweight (IBF) world-title defense fight. Salgado was 27 years old and with a record of 26-1-1 (16), and Barros was 28 years old and with a record of 34-2-1 (18). Salgado won the fight via 12-round unanimous decision and successfully defended his title.
