    On January 8, 2000 Johnny Tapia fought Jorge Eliécer Julio in a bantamweight world-title fight for Julio's WBO title. Tapia was 32 years old and with a record of 47-1-2 (25), and Julio was 30 years old and with a record of 42-1 (31). Tapia won the fight via 12-round unanimous decision and is crowned the new bantamweight world champion.

    On April 27, 2002 Johnny Tapia fought Manuel Medina in a featherweight world-title fight for Medina's IBF title. Tapia was 35 years old and with a record of 52-2-2 (28), and Medina was 31 years old and with a record of 60-11 (28). Tapia won the fight via 12-round majority decision and is crowned the new featherweight world champion.

    On February 3, 1996 Johnny Tapia met Giovanni Andrade in a super-flyweight (WBO) world-title defense fight. Tapia was 28 years old and with a record of 34-0-2 (20). Tapia stopped Giovanni Andrade via 2nd-round TKO and successfully defended his title.
