On July 8, 1989 John Mugabi fought René Jacquot in a super-welterweight world-title fight for Jacquot's WBC title. Mugabi was 29 years old and with a record of 34-2 (34). Mugabi stopped René Jacquot via 1st-round TKO and is crowned the new super-welterweight world champion.
