Sosa was 28 years old and with a record of 19-1-4 (15), and Fortuna was 26 years old and with a record of 29-0-1 (21). Sosa stopped Javier Fortuna via 11th-round TKO and is crowned the new super-featherweight world champion.
On November 12, 2016 Jason Sosa met Stephen Smith in a super-featherweight (WBA (Regular)) world-title defense fight. Sosa was 28 years old and with a record of 20-1-4 (15), and Smith was 31 years old and with a record of 24-2 (14). Sosa won the fight via 12-round unanimous decision and successfully defended his title.
