On October 12, 1931 Jack Sharkey faced off against Primo Carnera in a heavyweight bout at age 28. He was coming in with a record of 35-9-2 (12), and Carnera was 24 years old and with a record of 48-3 (41). Sharkey won the fight via 15-round unanimous decision.
On June 21, 1932 Jack Sharkey fought Max Schmeling in a heavyweight world-title fight for Schmeling's The Ring title. Sharkey was 29 years old and with a record of 36-9-2 (12), and Schmeling was 26 years old and with a record of 44-4-3 (30). Sharkey won the fight via 15-round split decision and is crowned the new heavyweight world champion.
