Peñalosa was 35 years old and with a record of 52-6-2 (35), and González was 25 years old and with a record of 34-5 (29). Peñalosa stopped Jhonny González via 7th-round KO and is crowned the new bantamweight world champion.
On July 2, 2006 Gerry Peñalosa faced off against Tomas Rojas in a super-flyweight bout at age 33. He was coming in with a record of 50-5-2 (33), and Rojas was 26 years old and with a record of 21-8 (13). Peñalosa won the fight via 10-round unanimous decision.
