On June 14, 2014 Chris Algieri fought Ruslan Provodnikov in a super-lightweight world-title fight for Provodnikov's WBO title. Algieri was 30 years old and with a record of 20-0 (8), and Provodnikov was 30 years old and with a record of 23-2 (16). Algieri won the fight via 12-round split decision and is crowned the new super-lightweight world champion.
On June 1, 2019 Chris Algieri faced off against Tommy Coyle in a super-lightweight bout at age 35. He was coming in with a record of 24-3 (9), and Coyle was 29 years old and with a record of 25-4 (12). Algieri stopped Tommy Coyle via retirement.
