On December 19, 2020 Callum Smith, the WBA (Super) and The Ring champion, met Canelo Álvarez, the WBC champion, in a super-middleweight world-title unification fight. Smith was 30 years old and with a record of 27-1 (19), and Álvarez was 30 years old and with a record of 53-1-2 (36). Smith lost the fight via 12-round unanimous decision and lost his titles.
