On April 19, 2014 Beibut Shumenov, the WBA (Super) champion, met Bernard Hopkins, the IBF champion, in a light-heavyweight world-title unification fight. Shumenov was 30 years old and with a record of 14-2 (9), and Hopkins was 49 years old and with a record of 54-6-2 (32). Shumenov lost the fight via 12-round split decision and lost his title.
On August 15, 2009 Beibut Shumenov fought Gabriel Campillo in a light-heavyweight world-title fight for Campillo's WBA title. Shumenov was 25 years old and with a record of 8-1 (6), and Campillo was 30 years old and with a record of 18-2 (6). Shumenov lost the fight via 12-round majority decision.
