On December 6, 2013 Akira Yaegashi met Edgar Sosa in a flyweight (WBC and The Ring) world-title defense fight. Yaegashi was 30 years old and with a record of 19-3 (9), and Sosa was 34 years old and with a record of 49-7 (29). Yaegashi won the fight via 12-round unanimous decision and successfully defended his titles.
On December 30, 2016 Akira Yaegashi met Wittawas Basapean in a light-flyweight (IBF) world-title defense fight. Yaegashi was 33 years old and with a record of 25-5 (13), and Basapean was 32 years old and with a record of 31-5 (12). Yaegashi stopped Wittawas Basapean via 12th-round TKO and successfully defended his title.
