Maidana won the fight via 12-round unanimous decision and is crowned the new welterweight world champion.
On August 28, 2010 Marcos Maidana met DeMarcus Corley in a super-lightweight (WBA) world-title defense fight. Maidana was 27 years old and with a record of 29-1 (27), and Corley was 36 years old and with a record of 37-13-1 (22). Maidana won the fight via 12-round unanimous decision and successfully defended his title.
On April 9, 2011 Marcos Maidana fought Érik Morales in a super-lightweight world-title fight for Morales' WBA title.
