      James McGirt (Buddy) is a 60-year old retired American professional boxer. He was born in Brentwood, New York, U.S. on January 17, 1964. He is a former two-weight-class world champion. McGirt was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 2019. His professional boxing career spanned more than 14 years — from 1982 to 1997.

      McGirt made his professional boxing debut against Lamont Haithcoach at the age of 18 on March 2, 1982. The fight ended in a draw. He went on to win 28 consecutive fights after this draw, which included 25 wins via stoppage.

      He had his first world title fight at the age of 24 on February 14, 1988 after 38 professional fights, against Frankie Warren for the super-lightweight IBF (vacant) title. He defeated Warren via 12th round TKO to become the super-lightweight champion of the world.
