      José Cotto is a 46-year old retired Puerto Rican professional boxer. He was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico on June 22, 1977. He retired without winning a major world title. His professional boxing career spanned more than 15 years — from 1996 to 2012.

      Cotto made his professional boxing debut against Eugenio Ventura at the age of 19 on December 13, 1996, defeating Ventura via 1st round TKO. He went on to win 26 more consecutive fights after the debut, which included 18 wins via stoppage.

      He had his first world title fight at the age of 28 on April 8, 2006 after 27 professional fights, against Juan Díaz for the WBA (Regular) title. He lost to Díaz via 12 round unanimous decision.
