Boxing Career

Marcos Maidana was born in Margarita, Santa Fe, Argentina on July 17, 1983. He made his professional debut at the age of 20 years on June 12, 2004 against Adán Basilio Mironchik. Maidana defeated Mironchik via 1st round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.

Maidana got his first shot at a world title at the age of 25 after 25 professional fights. On February 7, 2009 Maidana challenged Andreas Kotelnik's WBA super-lightweight title but lost via 12-round split decision.

He then got elevated as the WBA (Regular) super-lightweight champion at the age of 28 after 33 professional fights, and had his first world-title defense fight against Petr Petrov on September 23, 2011. He stopped Petrov in the 4th of the 12-round fight.

Maidana then went on to successfully win the welterweight (WBA) titles also to become a two-division world champion.
